Hello, Iā€™m Duncan Stibbard Hawkes.

I'm an Evolutionary Anthropologist at Durham University. I conduct research in Tanzania with a population called the Hadza who traditionally lived as hunter-gatherers. Some still do.

My work has explored the reasons that people hunt and so generously share food. My future work, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, will explore why hunter-gatherers are often egalitarian, and whether this changes when subsistance shifts.

You can read more about my research interests here.
